The milk guard, milk keeper or milk beater is a cooking aid which, when placed in a pot of milk, announces the boiling up of the milk by a loud rattling sound and thus gives reason to take the milk off the stove before it boils over. Overflowing or foaming of already boiling liquids can also be prevented, as the solid body inhibits the boiling delay (made of glass).
