This set contains everything you need for a traditional matcha ceremony at home. In Japan, matcha is traditionally drunk from a bowl, which shows off the high-quality matcha particularly well and can also be used for preparation. A bamboo spoon, also known as a "chashaku", is used to measure out the green matcha powder. The "chashaku" is carved from bamboo and patiently bent into the shape of a spoon by hand over hot steam. The final step is the elaborate bamboo whisk, called "chasen" in Japanese, which is cut from a bamboo cane. The "chasen" is used to whip the matcha powder into a delicious drink with a light foam. After production, the bamboo whisk is dried over the ceramic holder.

The traditional preparation of matcha:

  • Usucha tea: place 1-2 bamboo spoons (½ teaspoon) of matcha in a bowl, fill with approx. 80 ml of 80°C hot water and whisk with a bamboo whisk until lightly frothy. After use, place the bamboo whisk on the ceramic whisk holder to dry.
  • Creamy koicha: Double the amount of matcha and halve the amount of water. Whisk the creamy mixture with the bamboo whisk for 15 seconds until frothy.
