Match holder "Fidibus"
Cast iron
The Fidibus, an arguably almost forgotten lighting aid. The industrial designer Josh Owen has breathed life back into this practical object.
The vessel is made of cast iron and has a container in the middle for storing matches. If you want to light a candle or a fire, this practical item comes into play. Take a match and strike it across the rough surface and the match will ignite. It can be placed in the bowl to cool.
The Fidibus can only be used with matches that have a head made of phosphorus sesquisulphide. These are flammable on any rough surface. You know them from the countless western movies: A cowboy ignites the match with a casual movement on his boot.
In the trade, however, usually only the safety matches are still available. These have a separate ignition and friction mass.
The matches "Cowboy Match" can be used for the Fidibus Art. I01-630-11
