Alessi
The Alessi company was founded by Giovanni Alessi in 1921 in Omegna (Italy) and in 1932 Giovanni's son Carlo joined the company as a designer. At this time Alessi increasingly moved away from the arts and crafts origins in favour of industrial production.
The feeling for trends became in the following years the recipe for success of the company: The question of "good form", which many designers tried to answer in the fifties and sixties, always played only a minor role at Alessi. Much more important was the Italian principle of "far bella figura"; and the success proved Alessi right. In the course of the company's history Alessi has produced more than 2000 products, created by more than 200 designers.
Connected to the company name are, among others, Aldo Rossi, Michael Graves, Philippe Starck with the Fly-Clamp, David Chipperfield with the Tonale tableware, Stefano Giovannoni with the Mami cutlery, Ettore Sottsass with the Nuovo Milano cutlery, Jasper Morrison with the
Texture series, Köbi Wiesendanger with the button-huile, Marcel Wanders with the can of dressed.
